Reconstruction of tracks and overpasses at the intersection of 11. novembra krastmala and 13. janvāra iela has been completed
Today, 3 November, the intersection of 11. novembra krastmala and 13. janvāra iela reopened, completing the reconstruction of the existing tram infrastructure. According to the project, the intersection was reconstructed, including the installation of an automated switch control system, the adaptation of the tram catenary network structures, the implementation of rainwater drainage solutions and the construction of a carriageway pavement suitable for the heavy traffic load.
Jānis Golubevs, Member of the Board of Rīgas satiksme: “After several months of meticulous work, we have completed the reconstruction of the tram infrastructure at the intersection of 11. novembra krastmala and 13. janvāra iela. Following the completion of the works, the level of safety in the level crossing area, as well as the overall throughput of the crossing, have been improved with the installation of the automated level crossings, resulting in a shorter crossing time. Additionally, to reduce vibration and noise during tram operation, the rails will be glued to the slabs with a special noise and vibration damping and electrical insulating material.”

Rīgas satiksme started construction work in early February of this year. The contract for the construction works at the intersection of 11. novembra krastmala and 13. janvāra iela was signed at the end of 2022, and as a result of the procurement, the offer from road construction company Binders SIA was recognised as the most economically advantageous.
The construction works at the intersection of 11. novembra krastmala and 13. janvāra iela were co-financed by the European Union Cohesion Fund within the framework of project No. 4.5.1.1/22/I/001 “Adaptation of Riga Tram Infrastructure to Low-Floor Tram Parameters” (hereinafter – the Project). In addition to the reconstruction of the intersection, the Project is to adapt the infrastructure of route 7 tram in the section from Centrāltirgus iela to the final destination Ķengarags and the infrastructure of route 5 tram in the section from the intersection of Jūrmalas gatve and Slokas iela to the final destination Iļģuciems to fit the low floor tram parameters. The Project is also to renovate four substations and construct one substation, all with electrical equipment, to ensure adequate power supply for the low-floor tram operation. The total cost of the Project is estimated at EUR 55.2 million, while the Cohesion Fund co-financing amounts to 85% of the eligible costs, i.e., EUR 38.78 million.
